Drifting for Steelhead
Drifting for Steelhead in the river is a new concept for me, and while it seems pretty easy, there a bunch of small details that can help you when applied properly. I found a few different articles online that gave me an idea of how to make sure I am doing it right.
- How to for Steelhead Drift Fishing – Nice guide with diagrams and and explanation of runs.
- Drift fishing Gear and Setup – This guide has some very nice diagrams of setups, and describes bite detection.
- Dead Drift Technique is used primarily in the fall while Steelhead are aggressive.
- This HowTo also includes some links for Video’s on getting your rig ready.
I think the tips in the guides above give a great place to start, but there is no substitute for experience. Even the best techniques cannot overcome bad luck. I’ll hopefully find some time this weekend to get out and drift a bit myself, and I’ll be sure to get a report up on here on how things go.
